Kamaraj fame director A. Balakrishan is back with a varied political themed movie titled Mudhalvar Mahatma, which will show a fanciful tale of how Mahatma Gandhi would react if he were to visit India now. Speaking about the movie, director A. Balakrishnan said this movie is a way to find solutions to political and social problems the Gandhian way. He also added that he had created a scene in which slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran meets Gandhi to discuss the rights of the Tamil people in Srilanka. Ramana Communications, who produced Kamaraj, is producing the movie. Bollywood actor Anupam Kher will also appear in a role.

Director Balakrishnan is excited that he was able to convince Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja to work on his film, Mudhalvar Mahatma. He says, "Raja sir has worked with me on Periyar earlier.
"When I approached him this time, he said he'd like to see the film first before deciding if he'd want to work on it. After he saw the movie, he gladly agreed. He even got Bollywood veteran Uttam Singh to work with him on the scores.
