actor dancer director rakava lawerence and laksmi rai in romance photos stills in tamil film kanchana

Movie Review: Choreographer-actor-director Raghava Lawrence's " Kanchana" is a sequel to his earlier film "Muni". Though the film is supposed to be a horror one, it succeeds to scare only in bits. For most part, the characters are loud, dramatic and over emotive.

Raghava (Lawrence) is a happy go lucky guy, who lives with his mother (Kovai Sarala) and his brother's family. He fights and dances, but has just one weakness - he is afraid of the dark and ghosts, after sunset. Once, after a game of cricket with friends, he comes home to see that the cricket stumps have blood stains on them. From then, strange things happen in his house. Raghava begins to behave unusually, like a woman.

Raghava who directed and acted in this film takes too much time to get to the main plot. The first half of the film is boring, loud with over the top performances, especially from Kovai Sarala. Most of the film drags and tests the audiences' patience. Though the film takes up for a cause, it is shown only at the end of the film. The movie gets interesting only in the last half-an-hour when Sarath Kumar, who plays a eunuch, enters the fray. Kudos to him for playing such a role so convincingly. Only his voice seems out of place. Lawrence's performance in a complex role is not too impressive. Lakshmi Rai is confined to just songs. Apart from a few elements which would appeal the masses, the movie is quite a dull affair.
