Karikalan is an upcoming Tamil-language action film directed by L. I. Kannan featuring Vikram and Zarine Khan in the lead roles. The film which has been reported as a "period cum contemporary drama" is likely to release in 2012.

It was reported that director Kannan was set to make a film with Vikram playing the lead role, and Katrina Kaif was initially approached to play the lead female role. The first public release from the film announced that Zarine Khan, who appeared in the Hindi period film Veer, had been signed on to portray the lead female role. Meanwhile character actors, Pasupathy and Shanmugarajan were also revealed to be a part of the film.[4] The crew for the film was composed mainly of rookie technicians with Kannan making his debut as director after previously handling special effects in films. The cinematographer, Karthik, also debuts after work as an apprentice whilst the editor and art directors had previously worked in small budget films. The story of this film was said to be written by Gandhi Krishna who directed Chellamae and Ananda Tandavam.[5] Music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Filming
Portions of the film have already been shot in Talakona, Andra Pradesh; while it is expected that computer graphics and special effects will be later added
